James Wadsworth Hospital - Urology Clinic

Innovative design approach for an active clinic vulnerable to wear and tear.

West Los Angeles Medical Center, US Department of Veterans Affairs
Los Angeles, CA

Zakian Woo Architects’ interior expansion of the VA West Los Angeles’ Wadsworth Hospital Urology Clinic was completed in two phases to keep it operational throughout. The 8,000 square-foot update included seven new clinical exam rooms, three Cystoscopy and procedure rooms, a three-bed recovery/prep area, and support spaces; efficiencies were gained by consolidating clinical and procedural functions.

ZWA gave serious consideration to the quality of the patient experience, despite budget being a significant factor. Finishes were both attractive and durable - the main waiting room featured a custom stone counter and frameless glass window. A poured rubber urethane resinous flooring system in the procedure rooms were both antimicrobial and comfortable while standing.

Upon completion, Dr. Carol Bennett, Chief of Urology, said, “Because of ZWA’s thoughtful design, I’m certain this remodeled clinic will undoubtedly result in improved patient care. Form and function really do meet aesthetic and design!”
