Banyan Tree Shanghai on the Bund
The reflecting slivers of glass create a bridge between the sea and the sky framing the panoramic Shanghai skyline.

This conceptual design for a 150-room luxury hotel centers on a complex glass skin that wraps the building, creating opportunities for the structure to interact with the downtown panoramic skyline and the glistening waterfront through light reflections off the faceted curtain wall. The property’s constricted waterfront site posed considerable challenges, but the resulting arched floor plan gave rise to fresh and unexpected room shapes and sizes.
In collaboration w/ MIX StudioWorks, Zakian Woo Architects also provided numerous studies to address such elements as automobile circulation and drop-off, the distribution of public space and dining amenities.
