An adaptive reuse blending industrial architecture and modern elements to maximum effect.

This adaptive reuse cleverly combined two existing structures to create one large office for two design firms - Zakian Woo Architects and Pickett Design Associates. The buildings’ industrial origins - interior brick walls, structural and MEP, and concrete floors - were left exposed, juxtaposed with gypsum board ceiling features and partitions. Clerestory roof projections and windows were cut into the building for extensive natural light and ventilation. The exterior was also transformed with a combination of concrete, brick, steel and glass, as well as new landscaping and custom outdoor lighting.
Common spaces such as the entry/reception, conference room and resource library created space efficiencies and opportunities to for collaboration. Custom office systems were designed to be flexible, with horizontal desk surfaces on wall-mounted tracks for private cubicle environments or open workspaces and storage components on wheels.
