Executive Offices, Faculty Center & Assembly Room

School of Medicine | University of California Irvine, Design and Construction
Irvine, CA

This 11,000 square-foot tenant improvement houses the Executive Offices of UCI’s School of Medicine, a demanding environment that serves both the admissions process and administrative functions. The plan evolved according to the systematic sequencing of spaces from public to private, making the placement of offices and staff areas in relationship to assembly spaces particularly critical.

The 100-person multipurpose hall and pre-function area is the heart of the space. It speaks to the values of the School of Medicine through the sculptural quality of its design and can accommodate a variety of events in type and scale – its flexibility demonstrates the institution’s commitment to the future. The build-out also included a reception area and lobby, 25 offices, conference room and meeting rooms, Faculty Center, and support facilities.

Design features include new partitions, door and sidelight assemblies, and infill glazing at transoms above exterior windows. ZWA designed custom elements throughout such as an articulated glass and plaster feature wall and office and reception casework and lighting fixtures. Technical requirements included the design and construction of the electrical room, data room and A/V closets, and the installation of mechanical equipment and linear diffusers.
