Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s (CSMC) Core Imaging Research Center consolidated multiple medical research departments into a single, 6,000 square-foot space suite. The ambitious program and compact footprint required ingenuity to space plan. Ultimately, a generous core circulation corridor served a dual purpose as both the Center’s imaging control area and a series of common spaces for collaboration. Custom workstation partitions and casework provided privacy within the imaging areas.
The project required the installation of three large and two micro imaging machines – a 3 Tesla MRI, CT scan, PET CT scan, Micro MRI, and Micro PET CT – plus a teleconference room, waiting rooms and administration. Given the constrained space, mechanical support for the equipment was installed within 2,000 SF of an interstitial ceiling gap, requiring five custom systems, each with their own accessibility, appearance, and acoustical attributes.
